Nepal trekking permits 2026 guide showing Himalayan trekking route

Is there any information about planning a trek in Nepal for 2026. An important thing for arranging before you start on a hike is obtaining an appropriate hiking license.

Based upon your route, you might require an entrance ticket for a national park or conservation area, a local government permit, or a special restricted-area trekking permit. Payment is dependent upon nationality as well as seasonal restrictions such as limited periods or specific numbers of treks per year.

The book provides information about major trekking permits and charges for Nepal in 2026 such as TIMS, Annapurna Conservation Area (ACAP), Everest/Sagarmatha National Park, Manaslu, Upper Mustang, Upper Dolpo and other restricted areas.

1. What Is a Trekking Permit in Nepal?

An official permission to enter a particular area of trekking by Nepal requires a trekking permit.

The treks of Nepal go to national park zones, wildlife reserves and sometimes governmental protected lands. Permits are used by governments for managing tourist activities, protecting nature and culture sites from damage or theft of information about them as well regulating entry into certain areas like borders and mountains due to their difficulty level.

According to the Nepal Tourism Board, visitors who enter protected zones have to pay an entrance charge whereas those going through restricted ones need a special trekking permit.

Every hike needs a different set of licenses.

For example

  • An Annapurna trek normally requires a TIMS + ACAP entry permit.

  • Standard Everest Base Camp hike needs to enter Sagarmatha National Park along with a Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality permit.

  • Manaslu trek needs to be done from within protected areas and through an area restriction permit.

  • An Upper Mustang needs an area-specific hiking license along with any other regulations for entering protected areas.

2. TIMS Card in Nepal 2026

Trekkers' Information Management System is called TIMS.

Its purpose is for tracking trekkers' data and enhancing security measures like surveillance systems as well as coordinating rescue operations during emergencies.

As per the most recent data from Nepal Tourism Board, this amount of TIMS fee is.

NPR 1, SAARC Nationals.

Foreign Other Foreign Nationals: $2,000.

Currently, this service can be accessed via an internet-based platform provided by a registered trekking agency. The Nepal Tourism Board states that they provide trekkers' details such as guides and routes along with their fees; once paid for it generates an electronic TIMS card via QR codes.

Is TIMS required everywhere?

No.

One of them is very difficult to understand as there are many different types for each route.

According to the Nepal Tourism Board's current guidelines there is an abundance of areas for treks that require a licensed guide along with an agent issued TIMS. They are located in Annapurna, Langtang, Manaslu, Kanchenjunga, Makalu-Barun and many more places.

Important Everest clarification

Currently there is a list of trekking trails to Everest region on Nepalese tourism board website but also an independent Trek Card system by Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality for tourists visiting that area.

Published trek-cards by this town are available on their website.

SAARC countries and China: NPR 2,000.

NPR 3,000 Other countries.

The local charge is not included in the price of visiting Sagarmatha National Park.

Thus, tourists must get an official confirmation of permits by their own trekking company before embarking on any particular path to Everest rather than taking up a non-standard version like Lukla Namche EBC.

3. Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) 2026

annapurna circle trek

Annapurna National Park is located on many famous hiking trails in Nepal such as.

  • Annapurna Base Camp
  • Annapurna Circuit
  • Mardi Himal
  • Poon Hill
  • Khopra Ridge
  • Nar Phu-related routes

According to the most recent Nepal Tourism Board protected area fees list for Annapurna Conservation Area entrance charge is.

Foreign nationals

NPR 3,000 per

SAARC nationals

NPR 1,000 per

Nepali citizens

NPR 100 per

Children under 10 years old are listed as free on the current protected area fee schedule.

So this is a requirement of anyone who plans on doing an Annapurna Base Camp trek which includes paying an ACAP entrance fee as well as any other charges related to it under TIMS.

Example: Annapurna Base Camp

Non SAARC Foreign Trekker.

  • ACAP: NPR 3,000
  • TIMS: NPR 2,000
  • Total: NPR 5,000
  • For a SAARC national
  • ACAP: NPR 1,000
  • TIMS: NPR 1,000

Total: NPR 2,000

It is an entry fee / permit cost calculator; it doesn't cover transport costs, guides' fees, lodging charges, meals and snacks for hikers etc.

4. Everest Base Camp Permit Fees 2026

Everest Base Camp is located inside Sagarmatha National Park, so trekkers need to pay the national park entry fee.

The current Nepal Tourism Board fee is:

Howeever, Everest trekker is required to get a Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Trek Card or local permit.

Trek Card is available on this website by the town itself.

NPR 3,000 Other Countries.

Everest Base Camp Trek Standard.

Foreigners not members of SAARC country.

NPR 3,000 Sagarmatha National Park.

Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Trek Card Price is NPR 3,000.

Local Park Fee + Combined Local/Park Fees = $6,000.

For SAARC nationals

NPR 1,500 Sagarmatha National Park.

NPR 2,000 Khumbu Trek Card.

Combined: NPR 3,500

Two charges are coming from separate sources so they shouldn't be combined into a single permit.

5. Do You Need TIMS for Everest Base Camp?

Here are some places where people often get contradictory facts from websites.

An older article says you need an Everest Base Camp TIMS card. Nevertheless, the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality has a trek-card or local permit that is not issued by TIMS.

Also at this point, there is no complete alignment between the current Nepal Tourism Board TIMS guidelines for an online itinerary which also contains some Everest region tours.

Therefore don't depend upon an outdated website or a general "TIMS needed everywhere.". Verify the permits needed to go on an expedition of Everest by a licensed tour operator prior to leaving home.

The cost of a standard Khumbu trek is to pay an entrance fee into Sagarmatha National Park along with a passport card from Khumbu Pasang Lhamu.

6. Langtang National Park Permit

Trekkers heading toward Langtang Valley and surrounding routes enter Langtang National Park.

The current Nepal Tourism Board protected-area fee schedule lists:

  • Foreign nationals: NPR 3,000

  • SAARC nationals: NPR 1,500

  • Nepali citizens: NPR 100

  • Children below 10: Free

Depending on the route, a trekker may also need the applicable TIMS card.

For example, the Nepal Tourism Board currently lists Langtang Trek, Langtang–Gosaikund, Tamang Heritage and Ganja La Pass among routes under its guide-and-TIMS provisions.

7. Manaslu Trekking Permits 2026

Manaslu is different from many mainstream trekking regions because parts of the route fall within a restricted area.

The Department of Immigration currently lists the Manaslu restricted-area permit at:

September–November

USD 100 per person for the first week

After the first week:

USD 15 per person per additional day

December–August

USD 75 per person for the first week

After the first week:

USD 10 per person per additional day

This restricted-area permit is not the same thing as the Manaslu Conservation Area entry fee or TIMS.

Depending on your itinerary, several separate fees can therefore apply.

8. Upper Mustang Trekking Permit 2026

Upper Mustang is a highly regulated trekking destination in Nepal.

Upper Mustang is listed as a restricted area permit by the Department of Immigration on this page.

$50 USD per day for each individual.

It is applicable within this specified upper mustang restricted zone.

Also consider an upper mustang trekking permit cost while planning your trip to a national park or reserve area.

Since Upper Mustang is an off-limits zone, obtaining permission for visiting it differs from buying an entrance pass to a national park.

9. Upper Dolpo Permit 2026

Upper Dolpo has one of the highest restricted-area permit costs in Nepal.

The current Department of Immigration schedule lists:

USD 500 per person for the first 10 days

After 10 days:

USD 50 per person per additional day

Trekkers should also account for applicable protected-area entry fees and the logistics associated with a remote camping trek.

10. Other Restricted-Area Trekking Permit Fees

Nepal has several other restricted areas where fees depend on the region and season.

According to the current Department of Immigration schedule:

Restricted Area

Current Fee

Upper Mustang

USD 50/person/day

Upper Dolpo

USD 500/person/first 10 days; USD 50/day thereafter

Manaslu

Humla

USD 50/week + USD 10/day after one week

USD 20/week for first 4 weeks; USD 25/week thereafter

Lower Dolpo

USD 20/week for first 4 weeks; USD 25/week thereafter

Rasuwa

Mugu

USD 100/week + USD 15/day after one week

Darchula

USD 90/week + USD 15/day after one week

11. National Park and Conservation Area Fees

A trekking permit isn't always the only government fee.

If your route passes through a protected area, you may also need an entry permit/fee.

12. What Documents Do You Need?

Many treks require a passport for you to get an entry permit from our company.

According to a permit, there may be some conditions that apply.

  • Valid passport

  • Passport details/copy

  • Passport-size photograph

  • Trekking itinerary

  • Trekking agency documentation

  • Trekker name list

  • Restricted area travel insurance documents.

  • Applicable payment documents

Current restrictions on area by the Department of Immigration includes forms like a form for submitting applications to trekking agencies along with other things needed like trekking itineraries, trekker lists and insurance papers.

Since restricted area permits are more strictly regulated by authorities, trekkers must obtain their own from an authorized company instead of buying them directly at a trailhead.

13. How Much Should You Budget for Permits?

Your total permit cost depends heavily on the route.

Example: Annapurna Base Camp

Foreign national:

  • TIMS: NPR 2,000

  • ACAP: NPR 3,000

Estimated permit total: NPR 5,000

Example: Everest Base Camp

Foreign national:

  • Sagarmatha National Park: NPR 3,000

  • Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Trek Card: NPR 3,000

Estimated local/park fees: NPR 6,000

Example: Langtang Valley

Foreign national:

  • TIMS: NPR 2,000

  • Langtang National Park: NPR 3,000

Estimated permit total: NPR 5,000

Example: Manaslu in October

A foreign trekker entering the restricted Manaslu area during September–November may pay:

  • Manaslu restricted-area permit: USD 100 for the first week

  • Additional restricted-area days: USD 15/day

  • Plus applicable conservation-area and other trekking fees

Therefore, Manaslu should not be compared with ordinary trekking routes using only a single “permit price.”

14. Where Can You Get Nepal Trekking Permits?

Permitting requirements determine where to issue a document.

TIMS

The TIMS process is managed by the Nepal Tourism Board / registered trekking agency registration system where currently they can submit information for generating a digital TIMS card.

Entry to National Parks and Conservation Areas.

Payments for fees are usually made at a tourist office / protected area entrance where applicable. According to Nepal Tourism Board, entrance fee for protected areas can be paid at the Tourist Service Center located at Bhrikutimandap or other places where applicable.

Restricted Areas

The special trekking permit is given out to you from the Department of Immigration which can be obtained via an approved trekking agency.

16. Permit vs TIMS vs Conservation Fee: What's the Difference?

These terms are sometimes mixed together online.

TIMS Card

A trekker information and management document used on applicable trekking routes.

National Park Entry Permit/Fee

Required when your trekking route enters a national park such as Sagarmatha or Langtang.

Conservation Area Entry Permit/Fee

Required for areas such as Annapurna or Manaslu Conservation Areas.

Restricted Area Trekking Permit

A special authorization required for government-designated restricted regions such as Upper Mustang, Upper Dolpo and parts of Manaslu.

Local Municipality Trek Card/Permit

A local government charge, such as the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Trek-Card used in the Everest region.

One trek can therefore require more than one permit or fee.

17. Important Tips Before Your Trek

  • Check the route, not just the trek name .

Two trekking tours may have identical names but take different paths so they need separate licenses to go on them.

For instance, a trek to Everest via the usual Khumbu path differs from going up by way of Jiri or some other trail.

  • Old fee tables are not reliable.

Fees for permits are changing whereas old trekking blog sites might stay up to date for many years.

Check for updates on payment details the first time you make a purchase.

  • Keep your passport accessible

Passport information is required by various permits and could also be questioned while on a hike.

  • Ask whether permits are included

When booking an adventure tour, inquire about what kind of permit is provided by your travel company.

  • Keep digital and physical copies

Keep a copy of photos/pdf for passport/insurance/permits on mobile devices along with necessary paperwork.

Final Checklist: Nepal Trekking Permits 2026

The Nepalese trekkers' pass requirements may seem complex initially; however, they are quite straightforward as long as you know which ones apply for each specific path taken through national parks or other reserves based upon citizenship status of travelers.

In 2026, travelers should check the latest government information soon before leaving as there may be changes to fees and administrative requirements.
