Tsum Valley Reopens for Trekking: Trail & Bridge Update 2026
Trekking in the sacred Tsum Valley has officially reopened following prompt community-led trail and bridge repairs.
After trail damage caused by the October 11, 2026 Budhi Gandaki flooding, local teams and community leaders worked around the clock to restore safe access for trekkers. On October 25, 2026, the Trekking Agencies' Association of Nepal (TAAN) issued an official safety advisory confirming that the route to Chhekampar and Mu Gompa is open and safe to hike once again.
Community-Led Trail Repairs at Sardi Khola
The reopening of the Tsum Valley route is thanks to the local youth and leaders of the Chum Nubri Rural Municipality.
- Four New Wooden Bridges: Local teams constructed and installed four wooden bridges across flood-damaged river sections around Sardi Khola to restore safe crossings.
- Trail Reconstruction: Washed-out trail sections connecting upward to Chhekampar and the historic Mu Gompa has been cleared and repaired.
- Official Verification: Trail safety and reopening details were verified directly with Mr. Nima Lama (Chairperson of Chum Nubri Rural Municipality) and Mr. Serap Gurung (Local Youth Leader).

Current Route Status: Manaslu & Tsum Valley
Both the Tsum Valley Trek and the Manaslu Circuit (via Larkya La Pass) are now running regular departures:
- Road Access: Jeeps and transport can travel directly as far as Machhakhola to start the trek.
- Yaru Bagar Bypass: A quick 10-minute alternative trail has been created at Yaru Bagar to bypass a tricky section of the riverbank.
- Upper Manaslu Circuit: Trekkers have crossed through repaired sections from Machhakhola via Khorlabesi, Jagat, Philim, and Nyakphedi, reaching higher camps like Samagaon and Dharmashala without issue.
- Permits Reissued: The Department of Immigration (DoI) and the Manaslu Conservation Area Project (MCAP) are actively issuing trekking permits for both routes.
Trekker Safety Advisory
While the trail is fully operational, travelers and mountain guides should keep the following in mind:
- Trek Cautiously: Be mindful of newly cut paths and freshly placed wooden bridges around Sardi Khola.
- Consult Locals Daily: Always check in with teahouse owners and local trail monitors regarding water levels and conditions along upcoming stages.
- Hire Licensed Support: As a restricted border region, Tsum Valley requires a licensed mountain guide, a minimum of two travelers, and official agency permits.
